Grades 1/2 and 4/5 entered the gymnasium only to discover a whole heap of amazing activities and games that required a serious skill-set of counting to 100 and mastering our many 100 day challenges! See some of the examples below...
Station 9: Closest guess to how many cinnamon hearts were in the jar- keeps the jar!!
Station 4: Add a sticky note
Station 6: Can you stack these 100 high?
The talented grade 4/5 students helped create a massive banner to drape over our gymnasium doors - students entered through the "0" and posed for team photos!!
CHRISTMAS
Snowman Stand Christmas Presents for mom and dad 2020
DOOR DISPLAY CONTESTS
My grade 4 classroom teamed up with our grade 5 neighbours to compete in a school-wide door display competition. Once the class researched and decided on their Christmas theme, they brainstormed ideas and decided to create their work using mainly recycled materials brought in from home. Each student was assigned an area to work on and partner up with a grade 5 student. The outcome was phenomenal! They created a 3D door awning, santa sleigh and 8 reindeers, 3D presents to display, a 3D red brick wall and fireplace and of course, fake snow used from old, recycled pillows. -Dec 2017
EASTER EGG ACTIVITY
During Easter we were practicing recycling, reducing and reusing materials for the upcoming Earth week. We decided to use real eggs and make several activities out of it. Here's what we got out of our eggs...
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: We did a cooking session where we learned how to properly boil eggs
SCIENCE: We carefully cracked the boiled egg shells without breaking apart the egg itself then immersed it into a natural food dye that we took from random food sources (such as beets for red, kale for green...) and leaving it overnight we were pleased to see it had created a cool design on the inside once peeled
ART: We then took the shells we had peeled off and used them to create a cracked mosaic art portrait to display in the classroom.

Skeleton Bone Scavenger Hunt
This activity was so much fun!! There were a LOT of steps involved in this activity...
Task: Create cut-out skeleton bones to hide around the classroom, make a clue envelope for each bones' location and have another class come in to do a skeleton scavenger hunt. The other class will each be given an envelope to find that particular bone. Once all have been found they have to try and put the skeleton back together. First we created a life-sized skeleton using large pieces of cardboard and slimy green paint. The students decided how many bones were needed to piece together a human skeleton (including fingers and toes) and then we painted them a brightly coloured green.
Next the students decided where in the classroom they wanted to hide their skeleton bones and created a "Clue" envelope to describe how someone could find that particular bone. See below for some examples. (2017)
We sealed our clues in an envelope that each individual decorated and labelled with bone #. Then we invited another class to find them.
MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION Making Personally Carved Mother's Day Boards with a Design using Nails and Yarn or String
By gathering up free scraps from a local Home Depot I managed to gather up large boards and have them cut into 32 small individual sizes for each child. Being inspired by several ideas on the web, I thought it would be neat for the students to use hammer and nails to create a personal design on one side and use yarn or string to implement their idea for a bolder look since they've taken a big interest in woodworking as of late. On the other side we used sharp tools for carving personal messages from child to mom- this took a LOT of effort, time and determination but I think it's great for students to learn patience, and that hard work pays off. After much time spent carving, the students then got creative with their painting choices to help the carved words pop on the board. Take a look at some of the finished products below and the process it took to get there...
HOLLYWOOD WEEK
Summer Camp Theme
The students from grades 1 to 6 joined together to create a Hollywood Week theme within the hallway of the school. Parents were invited to "walk the red carpet", visit the photo booth and award table and enter the VIP stage area.
