Why did I choose teaching and who helped me get where I am today ...
A few snapshots into my history where I truly felt teaching was my calling. Let's first start with those who helped get me there... from the valuable teachings of my placement mentors, to the beautiful hearted teachers in Cape Town, to those teachers and principles who continuously believe in my abilities and tenacity to keep going.

Paying It Forward
My first encounter with AUSSIE FAIRY BREAD
White Bread Butter More Butter Sprinkles A typical lunchtime snack for kids in Melbourne, Australia. My students all cheered me on to try Fairy Bread for the first time. So I did.
...It was not yummy
But the bonding experience with my new students was irreplaceable.
While studying Gerontology and Social Work at Seneca College, I had my student placement in a retirement home and ran the computer club for seniors on a weekly basis. One resident in particular, although grudgingly, needed technical support. Known for not being so pleasant by several nurses and PSW's, this man made my job extremely difficult- I still pushed through and gave my best effort to rise above the crudeness and make an impact. My patience paid off, the resident sent me this email 11 years ago, an email that shocked many staff members but one that I cherish in knowing my persistence and dedication to teaching made a difference to someone who constantly refused help.
Building a NEW kids school ground
Red Hill Primary, Cape Town
This is the site of Red Hill Primary, where I spent most of my days volunteering with African Impact teaching and rebuilding their school.
Fellow volunteers and I spent three months removing boulders and putting in a fence around the perimeter- the final result was incredible and so rewarding for the children. The photo to the right symbolizes triumph, dedication and brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. It is a reminder of what can be achieved for the greater good when you set your mind to it.
